Pints for Pawnee!
Join Clean Energy Action on Wednesday, October 19th from 7pm – 9pm for “Pints for Pawnee!” at the Walnut Brewery (1123 Walnut St, Boulder).
Enjoy a beer with fellow community members, learn more about the proposed pollution controls for the out-dated Pawnee and Hayden coal plants, and write letters to Xcel Energy requesting that they consider renewable energy options instead of investments that extend the lives of coal plants.
Xcel’s proposed pollution controls for the Pawnee coal plant (in Brush, northeast of Denver) and the Hayden coal plant (west of Steamboat Springs) would cost about $380 million and would extend the lives of the coal plants until 2025 and beyond. None of the pollution controls will reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas.
If Xcel proceeds with the pollution controls on Pawnee and Hayden, then it becomes more difficult to advocate for the retirement of these coal plants and there will not be a way to get significant CO2 reductions from Xcel’s Colorado system for many years.
We hope to see you for a night of socializing and activism on Wednesday, Oct 19th!
